Global chocolate and cocoa organizations have joined together to help people living in crisis-torn Ivory Coast. The "Cocoa Industry Relief Fund for the Ivory Coast" was created to support the work of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) which is providing emergency relief to people in Abidjan – the largest city in the Ivory Coast – and to people throughout the country. WFP is also helping refugees in Liberia and other West African states.
“WFP is feeding tens of thousands of people who have fled their homes in the face of conflict in Ivory Coast as well as transporting relief supplies on behalf of the entire humanitarian community,” said Nancy Roman, WFP Director of Communications, Public Policy and Private Partnership. “This donation will help us to get vital supplies of food to the most vulnerable, especially women and children, who have been caught up in the crisis.”
